Czaja's Late Tally Ties up Salisbury
Brunswick found itself an early three-goal deficit after one period of play at Salisbury but dug in, chipped away, and tied the game with 28 seconds to play – ultimately earning a 3-3 tie on Wednesday afternoon in Northwestern Connecticut.
Salisbury came out flying and scored on the game's first shift before adding two more on the power play to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the locker room at the intermission.
The Bruins talked about facing the adversity head-0n and not wilting under the pressure of the Crimson Knights – and they did just that for the remainder of the contest. Junior Joe Salandra finished off an offensive-zone faceoff play to get 'Wick on the board (with freshman Cam Minella and junior Mason St. Louis credited with the assists) and the visitors built a little momentum by outshooting the hosts 13-10 in the stanza.
Salandra brought the Bruins within one quickly after a d-zone draw went the other way and the junior sniper snuck a low snapper by a surprised Salisbury goalkeeper – 3-2 with 11:43 to go.
Time whittled down on Brunswick, which was finally able to use its timeout with 52 seconds to play and the rubber set to drop to the left of junior goaltender Dylan Lee- Stack. The Bruins pushed it up ice fast, dumped it, and secured possession on the right half-wall with the extra attacker on. The puck went from St. Louis to Salandra and up to Minella, who snapped a low wrister on cage that was banged home by senior Oliver Czaja.
Overtime was largely uneventful and the teams skated off with a 3-3 tie – a positive result for Brunswick given such a slow start.
