Brunswick’s varsity soccer team fell to visiting Choate, 6-0, on Carroll Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The scoreline doesn't tell the full tale regarding the quality of play for the home squad, but certainly reflects that the Bruins have some work to do if they want to be competitive in WNEPSSA this fall.
Choate took a 3-0 lead into the half, with all that scoring coming in the first 15 minutes of play. ’Wick’s starting attacking line of John Guza ’26, Matias DeBono ’26, and Patrick O'Donohue ’25 generated some solid scoring chances for the Bruins during the first frame, but couldn't get past the Choate goalkeeper.
The visiting team added to its score in the 48th minute, and then scored two more in the closing 10 minutes with both teams having nearly emptied their benches. Once again, Brunswick had a few chances to make it match but ultimately couldn't capitalize.
Senior captains Will Higgs (midfield) and Ollie Leonard (defense) never left the pitch on account of their solid play, with senior Theo Perkins also playing impactful minutes at midfield.
In net for Brunswick was junior Josh Katz, making six saves on the day.
The Bruins are home again on Saturday, hosting another New England powerhouse in Taft.
