Brunswick Outlasts No. 4 Malvern Prep

Brunswick earned an 8–7 win over No. 4 Malvern Prep on Wednesday night under the lights at Cosby Field.

The Bruins delivered a strong performance against a team that had defeated them in a tight contest a year ago. Brunswick jumped out to a fast start, led by senior Rick Giordano, whose shot was a major factor in the first half. The Bruins’ defense held firm throughout, and senior goalie Will Connell turned in a standout effort in net, helping Brunswick build a 5–3 lead at halftime.

The second half proved to be a battle, testing the depth and resolve of the Bruins. Already dealing with injuries, Brunswick lost Giordano early in the third quarter, forcing younger players into key roles. But the Bruins dug deep and continued to compete on both ends of the field.

Goals from sophomores Austin Tuttle and David Giuriceo, along with senior Sean Ryan, helped Brunswick maintain its edge as the teams traded scores throughout the half. Late in the fourth quarter, the Bruins came up with several key defensive stands while playing man down.

With under a minute remaining, Malvern pulled within one, but senior Owen Gibbons delivered a critical faceoff win with the groundball from classmate Ryan Baxter, and the Bruins looked to manage possession. Malvern earned one opportunity from distance in the closing seconds, but Connell made the game’s final save to secure the victory.

Brunswick returns to action Saturday when it hosts Loomis at Cosby Field, with faceoff set for 4:15 p.m.
