Bruins Earn Draw in Exciting Homecoming Match

Some late-game drama and energy under the lights of Cosby Field ensured a positive result for Brunswick, as the Bruins battled Hopkins to a 1–1 draw on Friday night before a packed Homecoming Weekend crowd.

Brunswick came out firing from the opening whistle, with senior midfielders Lincoln O’Donohue and John Guza combining well with striker Blake Levy ’27 to put constant pressure on the Hopkins back line. Several early shots went just wide or were blocked, as the Bruins dictated much of the first-half tempo.

Hopkins broke through in the 32nd minute, however, converting a header off a cross from the right flank that slipped past senior goalkeeper Tighe Murray. Despite the 0–1 deficit at halftime, the Bruins remained confident and composed.

In just his third career varsity start, Murray settled in during the second half, making four key saves — none bigger than a diving stop low to his right in the 55th minute to keep Brunswick within striking distance.

The breakthrough finally came in the 85th minute. After sophomore Dylan Stein earned a free kick along the left sideline, Guza sent a dangerous ball into the box that Hopkins failed to clear. Junior Judah Viders pounced on the loose ball and was brought down, earning a penalty. Guza then calmly buried the spot kick to level the score and ignite the home crowd.

Defensively, center backs Ray Foley ’27 and Declan Murray ’27 were commanding throughout, while wing-backs Stein, Rehaan Bhaskar ’28, and Justo Iraola '27 provided steady play on the flanks. Senior captain Fernando Uyaguari continued his standout season in holding midfield, anchoring both the attack and defense with poise and leadership.

With just two weeks and three matches remaining, the Bruins now turn their focus to Millbrook on Wednesday, before closing out the season at home against Hotchkiss and on the road at Westminster (11/8).
