Bruins Capture FAA Swimming Title

Brunswick captured its eighth FAA Championship on Saturday at Hopkins School, winning eight of 11 events — including all three relays — and setting or tying five FAA records in a dominant team performance.

The meet opened with a gold medal and FAA record in the 200-yard medley relay, as Chase Elliott ’27, Evan Ripp ’27, John Landers ’27, and Julio Ubina ’27 touched in 1:34.74, breaking the previous mark by 1.5 seconds.

Brunswick’s momentum continued in the 200-yard freestyle, where Landers ’27, Ripp ’27, and Elliott ’27 swept the podium. In the 200-yard individual medley, Jonathon Packard ’27 tied the 2019 FAA record (1:55.83) originally set by Brunswick alumnus Marcus Hodgson.

The Bruins’ depth was evident in the 50-yard freestyle, with Callum Walker ’26, George Wang ’27, and Chris Hake ’27 finishing second, third, and fourth, respectively. Ubina ’27 added a runner-up finish in the 100-yard butterfly.

Brunswick recorded its second sweep of the day in the 100-yard freestyle, as Wang ’27, Elliott ’27, and Gus Femenia ’29 placed first, second, and third.

Andrew Ripp ’29 delivered the team’s third FAA record in the 500-yard freestyle, clocking 4:46.03 to surpass the 2016 mark set by Brunswick alumnus Pat Stefanou. Scott Mendell ’28 joined him on the podium with a second-place finish.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Ubina ’27, Elliott ’27, Walker ’26, and Wang ’27 secured Brunswick’s second relay victory of the day.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Packard ’27 and Landers ’27 both swam under the previous FAA record, with Packard edging his teammate by .07 seconds to claim gold and set the new mark — Brunswick’s fourth record of the meet.

Ubina ’27 earned second place in the 100-yard breaststroke and broke the one-minute barrier for the first time in his career.

Brunswick closed the championship with its fifth record of the day in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Walker ’26, Wang ’27, Landers ’27, and Packard ’27 broke the 2022 Brunswick team record by more than six seconds.

With the victory, the Bruins secured their eighth FAA title since 2016 and extended their championship streak to seven. Brunswick will next compete at the NESCAC Championships at Andover on March 7–8, 2026.
