Bruins Best Big Green at Deerfield

Brunswick's varsity football team hit the road for a Saturday matinee in Deerfield, Mass., and returned to King Street with a 38-13 win over the Big Green.

Senior wide receiver Jaylen Noisette started the scoring for the Bruins, as he exploded through the goal line and a Deerfield defensive back on his way in for the score. Later in the first quarter, senior running back Patrick Hiebert scored on a strong run to put the Bruins up 14-0.

Brunswick and Deerfield traded touchdowns in the second quarter. Senior running back Zay Smith punched the Bruins' only score of the quarter in from the one-yard line, putting the visitors up 21-0. Deerfield answered back with a rushing touchdown of its own, and the game headed to halftime with Brunswick leading 21-7.

The third quarter saw only one score, as senior quarterback Blake Hebert broke a tackle in the backfield and spun off of another one at the line of scrimmage on his way into the endzone for another rushing touchdown — 28 - 7 Bruins after three quarters.

Brunswick scored its final touchdown of the day on the first play of the fourth quarter. Hebert found wide receiver Tyler Lloyd open downfield, and the senior turned up field after the catch and scampered down the sideline for the six points. Oliver Reynolds, who was 3/3 on PATs, made a 24-yard field goal later in the quarter to put the Bruins ahead 38-7. The Big Green exploded for one last rushing touchdown, but it was too little too late as time expired on the game and Brunswick shut the door with a 38-13 win.

The Bruins now shift their focus to Avon Old Farms, as they will host the Winged Beavers on Saturday, October 5, at 6 p.m. on Cosby Field.
