Brunswick battled to the final whistle on Wednesday but fell, 2–1, to visiting Avon Old Farms at Carroll Field.

The first half featured extended stretches of Avon possession, though Brunswick’s defense held firm and counterattacks created offensive opportunities. The teams entered halftime scoreless.

All three goals came during a six-minute span in the second half. Avon opened the scoring in the 64th minute, converting a one-on-one chance against goalkeeper Josh Katz ’25. Brunswick equalized just three minutes later, when a throw-in from Justo Iraola ’26 led to a sequence that found John Guza ’26 at the top of the box. Guza struck through traffic to level the match at 1–1.

Avon regained the lead shortly after, capitalizing on a long clearance that slipped behind the defense for another one-on-one finish past Katz.

Brunswick’s back line of Ray Foley ’27, Declan Moran ’26, Reehan Bhaskar ’28, and Iraola once again delivered a steady performance, while midfielders Fernando Uyaguari ’25 and Lincoln O’Donohue ’25 contributed on both sides of play. Katz recorded nine saves, highlighted by a leaping stop in the 56th minute, and played an important role in distribution out of the back. Colin Dean ’27 and Renzo Moha ’25 also provided valuable minutes.

Brunswick will travel to Frederick Gunn on Saturday in search of its first victory of the season.
