Bruins Advance to Prep National Finals

Brunswick defeated The Lawrenceville School, 16–15, in double overtime on Saturday night at Cosby Field, advancing to the Prep Nationals championship game after another dramatic battle between the longtime rivals.

The Bruins and Lawrenceville had already played an overtime thriller earlier this season, and Saturday’s semifinal delivered another high-scoring classic from the opening whistle. Auston Tuttle scored the game’s first goal to ignite the home crowd, while Ryan Baxter, Timmy Hall, and even goalkeeper Will Connell added goals during a wild first quarter that ended tied 7–7.

Lawrenceville surged ahead briefly in the second quarter, but Brunswick answered with goals from MJ Maraglino, Hall, Lucas Garcia, and Sawyer Bligh to stay within one at halftime, trailing 11–10.

The pace slowed somewhat in the second half as both defenses settled in. Parker Baras and Rick Giordano scored key goals in the third quarter to keep the Bruins close heading into the final period.

Trailing 15–13 late in regulation, Brunswick mounted one final push. Tuttle scored from the crease to cut the deficit to one before the sophomore attackman scored again to tie the game in the closing moments to force overtime.

Both teams traded possessions and defensive stops through the first overtime, sending the contest into a second extra period. After another key defensive stand and timeout from head coach Dave Bruce, Brunswick executed its final play to perfection as Garcia dodged from the wing and scored the game-winner to complete the 16–15 victory.

Brunswick will host Deerfield Academy on Sunday afternoon at Cosby Field in the Prep Nationals.
