Bruins Advance to FAA Basketball Finals

Brunswick advanced to its fourth consecutive FAA basketball championship with a win on Wednesday, besting Masters, 53-51, in Dann Gym.

The Bruins made it look easy throughout the entire first half by pushing the pace, sharing the basketball, and playing smothering defense. Led by Jaylen Johnson’s 14 points over the first 16 minutes of play, the home team held a 31-16 lead at the break.

But Masters would not go quietly and slowly but surely began to chip away at the lead as Brunswick went cold on offense and foul trouble hampered their defensive output. With two minutes to play, the Dragons cut the lead to just two points and it was anyone’s ballgame for the rest of the way. Thanks to clutch free throw shooting by Rhaki Lum, who scored a game-high 16 points, and a defensive stand on the game’s final possession, Brunswick came away victorious.

The Bruins travel to King for a chance at the league title on Friday evening.
