Brunswick kept its Elite 8 hopes alive on Senior Night at Hartong Rink -- skating away with a 3-2 win against Gunn on senior Niko Cadoret's game-winner in overtime.
The Bruins rallied in the third period -- entering the final frame trailing 1-0 -- and took the lead on goals by juniors Sean Gibbons and Drew DellaSalla four minutes apart. 2-1 'Wick with 5:09 to play.
Gunn got the equalizer after a set face-off play went forward to the net and a Highlander winger pounced on the rebound to tie it with 3:07 to go.
The Bruins, who outshot Gunn 39-31, talked about keeping the shifts short, committing to defense, and directing any and all pucks to the net in the extra session -- knowing that their chance to win it would come.
And it did.
DellaSalla and senior Eli Friedman played a quick game of catch on the left-corner offensive boards before DellaSalla snapped a perfect pass to the slot, where Cadoret had crept in from the blueline and was uncovered in between the hash marks. The senior d-man calmly received the puck and buried it to the top corner to empty the benches.
What a goal by a senior, four-year letterman on Senior Night. Couldn't have scripted it any better.
Fellow classmate and goaltender Brendan Holahan -- as well as seniors James Shannon, Sloan Farmer, Hunter Spiess (who left the game with an injury), Daniel Hu, and Collin Eschricht (out after surgery to remove his tonsils) -- all played significant roles in the exhilarating victory.
