Bruins Place Second in Western New England Prep Invitational

Led by overall tournament medalist sophomore Will Harned's stellar one-under-par 71, the Bruins were out-dueled by four strokes by Avon Old Farms for the championship of the fifth annual Western New England Prep Golf Invitational Wednesday in a remarkable display of superior high school golf at the picturesque Bull's Bridge Golf Club in South Kent, Conn., on Wednesday.

On any other day, riding the coattails of tournament medalist Harned's one-under 71, which paced the 90-player field, and backed up by senior co-captain Owen Hayes' 73, which included six birdies in his final competitive appearance as a Bruin, Andrew Stickel's 76, Harry Bonomo's 77, and co-captain Henry Devaney's 78, Brunswick's five-score aggregate stroke total of 375 for an individual 75 average for the team would have sailed to the tournament crown.

On Wednesday, however, on the beautiful rolling terrain of the Tom Fazio-designed Bull's Bridge layout, 'Wick ran into a Winged Beaver buzzsaw that was just sharp enough to nip the Bruins by a stroke average of less than one shot per player.

Moving forward, the Bruins will now look to conclude their '22 campaign on a high note in their final competitive date of the spring on Monday when they will seek to claim FAA supremacy in the league championship tournament at Greenwich Country Club.
