'Wick Swimmers Break Records, Top Loomis in Final Meet of 2021
In a meet that 'Wick looks forward to every two years, the team swam against its Division I rivals from Loomis Chaffee School on Wednesday afternoon, coming away with a 101-78 victory.
In addition to being a competitive meet, Loomis trains and competes at the Hedges Pool, a 25M pool, and the only 25M meet for the Bruins every other year.
The change in course gives swimmers the opportunity to achieve All-American cuts in meters as well as compete for All-American cuts, New England records, and national records.
The Bruins rose to the occasion and had a great meet on the road, winning 9 of the 11 swimming events.
Event winners included: Ben Wu (200IM) Patchy Mullen (50FR) Alex Hazlett (100FLY) * New England Record Felipe Leao (400FR) Peter Michalik (100Back) Jack Moore (100BR)
The team won all three relays as well.
A special congratulations to Alex Hazlett for earning three All-American accolades today: 100FLY, 50FR, and 200FR relay. Hazlett also broke the New England record in the 100FLY; he just missed the national record by two tenths of a second. He broke the New England record by 1.5 seconds.
Hazlett was joined by Patchy Mullen, Ben Wu, and Lucas Hodgson in the 200 meter free relay. The group won the event with a time of 1:32.77, breaking the Hedges Pool record at Loomis, the New England record, and the independent school national record. The record was previously held by Peddie School and dated back to 2011.
This was the team's last meet of 2021, and a great way to head into break.
