Varsity Soccer: Dozen-Strong Depth and Experience

With 12 returning seniors, the Brunswick soccer team expects to field an extremely competitive squad once league play begins on Wednesday, September 15, when the Bruins travel to Choate for their season opener.

Seniors John Dunn and Nico Montoni will serve as co-captains, bringing a wealth of experience to their respective defensive and offensive positions — as the Bruins return to a full slate of NEPSAC contests after being limited to five games last fall due to COVID-19.

Head coach Danny Simpson, along with assistants Jon Kaptcianos and Chris Forester, are optimistic about this year’s group after a productive two weeks of pre-season training.

“If we can come out with the confidence that we can put teams under pressure and create chances with players capable of finishing them, we can give the league opponents a good go,” Simpson said.

“We hope to capitalize on our depth and experience and get to the playoffs by the end of it.”

The Bruins will host the likes of Loomis, Avon Old Farms, Kent, and Hotchkiss — in addition to their Homecoming contest against Hopkins — throughout the fall season on Carroll Field at the Middle School campus on King Street.
