Seniors Emmet Coyle, Grant MacFaddin, and Matthew Wysocki were inducted to the Cum Laude Society on Thursday, February 5.
Academic Dean John Booth, who began teaching at Brunswick in the fall of 1991, gave the keynote address to the audience of Upper School students and faculty.
Booth’s remarks focused on a common misconception that academics and athletics are two totally incompatible and competing ideals.
“I beg to differ and am proud of the fact that I work at a school where sports and the lessons that can be learned from athletics are so greatly valued,” Booth said.
“Still, I would argue if your only focus at this school is sports, then you are not living up to the creed of Cum Laude.
“You are not going about your life with honor. You are not honoring all your parents are doing to send you to a place like Brunswick. And, you are not honoring yourself and the school we all call home.”
