For best exemplifying the values of patriotism and hard work at Connecticut Boys State, Reed McMurchy was named Youth of the Year by Greenwich American Legion.
The Connecticut Boys State Program, attended by more than 250 boys, emphasizes citizenship and leadership, as participants work together to tackle many of the issues currently being debated in Washington, D.C. — even proposing bills and legislation.
“The highlight of the week culminated in my selection as the Federalist’s Party’s nominee for Lieutenant Governor,” McMurchy said.
“Having been elected by a caucus of over 100 other boys, I worked with our party’s nominee for governor and the rest of the ticket to create a winning platform, which could solve the severe economic and educational issues facing Connecticut today.
“I lost by a handful of votes, but still thoroughly enjoyed the experience.”
McMurchy was honored with the award in a ceremony held on Veterans Day.
