Baseball Team Shuts Out RCDS

The varsity baseball team earned a hard fought victory over Rye Country Day by the score of 3-0 on Friday.

RCDS was a solid team that played well defensively and pitched tough to the Bruins offense. Ultimately, Brunswick was able to get the win due to fantastic pitching, timely hitting, and good defense.

Jackson Shepelsky got the start on the mound for the Bruins. He went six innings, only allowing one hit.  His dominant fastball was no match for the RCDS hitters. Jerry Guzman came on in relief and sealed the deal on the game.

The Brunswick offense got off to a slow start, as the Rye pitcher kept them off balance.  He complemented his fastball with several different off speed pitches. However, in the fourth inning, the bats finally came to life as Connor Jones led off the inning with a single. He stole second, and WIm Nook moved him to third on a ground out to second. Reed Hyde then brought across the first run with a sac fly to center, scoring Jones. It didn't stop there though. Jerry Guzman smoked a double to left center and then was brought in to score on an Alex Giannuzzi single. The score was now 2-0.

The Brunswick bats got right back to it in the fifth inning. Guzman led off the inning with a single and Teddy Bancroft pinch ran for him. Shepelsky then doubled to bring home Bancroft, making the score 3-0.

Overall, it was a well played game for the Bruins, as they battled for three hard earned runs. They head into their final week of the regular season and have two league matchups. Tuesday will be King at home and Thursday is St. Luke's away.
