The Brunswick varsity baseball team took the field to celebrate its seniors – and ultimately topped Hopkins by the score of 9-1 on Wednesday.
It was a well played game for Brunswick as the offense was firing on all cylinders, pitching was dominant, and the defense was excellent.
Teddy Bancroft took the mound in what was his first career start for the Bruins. The sophomore went four strong innings, as he held the Hilltoppers to a single run. Bancroft was spotting up his fastball and keeping the Hopkins offense off balance with his curveball. Nicholas Stern came on in relief – in his first career appearance for the Bruins – and pitched three scoreless innings to shut the door on the game.
The Bruins had an excellent approach at the plate, as they let the ball travel and looked gap to gap. They tacked on runs in just about every inning. Some notables: Connor Jones had two hits, including his first career home run. He finished the day with two RBIs. Jackson Shepelsky had two hits and two RBIs. Carlo Tucci had an RBI double. And Alex Giannuzzi had a single and two RBIs.
Next up: Brunswick hits the road to face off against a talented Rye Country Day team. Shepelsky will get the start.
