Bruins Win Showdown of Nation's Top Teams

The Bruins visited top-ranked Lawrenceville on Wednesday afternoon for a highly anticipated rematch of last year's Prep Nationals Finals – and emerged with a thrilling 13-12 overtime victory.

It was a tight first quarter, with both goalies making more than a handful of great saves. This trend held throughout the entire game, as senior Tucker Williams finished with 19 saves for ’Wick. The second quarter saw more scoring from both sides, but Lawrenceville went into the break up by a count of 7-5.

After the half, Brunswick's offense found its stride and went on a 3-0 third quarter run, including two from senior attackman Payton Anderson (4G, 1A) to take the lead 8-7 going into the fourth.

The fourth quarter was everything the fans could have hoped for in a game between the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the nation: Plenty of hard hits, incredible saves, and back-and-forth tallies on the scoreboard.

With 2:52 left, senior co-captain Casey Quinson (4G, 1A) drove hard to the cage for a goal to even the game at 11 and give a late extra-man opportunity to Brunswick. The Bruins capitalized on the man-up advantage, but Lawrenceville, once again, tied the game with 1:15 left, and the teams headed into overtime.

Aidan Diaz-Matos won the opening face-off of overtime and Brunswick never looked back. Sean Ryan, with a great heads up play off a quick restart that had the Lawrenceville goalie sprinting back to his cage, found Quinson for a low-angle, empty-net goal that sent the Bruins sideline racing onto the field to celebrate the win.

With the weekend off, Brunswick's next game is at Taft on Wednesday, April 17.
