'Wick Tennis Victorious in Season Opener

The Bruins earned a 7-0 victory at home in their season-opener against Avon Old Farms on Saturday.

The afternoon began with ideal tennis weather. The boys were ready to get their season underway after having two scrimmages earlier in the week. As with the traditional New England league format, the doubles teams play first to vie for the doubles point.

The #2 and #3 teams produced convincing wins to secure the doubles point. All other doubles matches stopped at that point to start the singles.

Rookie and freshman Jamie McCutcheon was the first to win in clinical fashion. Juniors Jack Sieg and Caleb Zimmerman were the next to complete their wins and clinch the match.

The remaining players on court were battling some relentless opponents who refused to go down easily. The longest match was settled more than three hours from start time by Neel Behringer, who played #6 on the day. He would eventually win in a third set tiebreaker to seal the sweep.

Summary of results (in order of finish):
