Brunswick kept its two streaks alive – 19 games without a loss and 15 straight victories – with a 5-4 overtime victory against Elite Hockey Academy 18U this evening at Hartong Rink.
On the GWG, which came soon after an offensive-zone draw, junior Tucker Spiess ultimately banked one in from behind the goal line after his linemates, senior Ryan Wachtel and junior Oliver Czaja, got the puck to the net and kept the rebound alive.
Elite was a dangerous team on the rush, and they cashed in on three straight PPGs in the second period to snatch the lead from the Bruins (who led 2-0 after one) and then tied the contest with 1:26 to go after 'Wick had gone ahead 4-3 early in the third.
And one more highlight and quite a significant one: Senior Brendan Giles scored a nifty first-period shorthanded tally and hit the 100-point mark for his three-year varsity career (he also added an assist to end the night at 101).
In the VanBelle/Kennedy/Mandes/Fuld era – which began in 2005-2006 and includes the transition from Division II to Division I in 2009-2010 – Giles became the 15th player (unofficially) to reach the 100-point plateau.

Note: There would likely be a few more if the 2020-2021 season was not lost to COVID-19.
Off to Canada on Thursday. More to report on Friday, when the Bruins (17-1-2) play two tough tilts against Northwood and Culver.
