Cheshire Outlasts Brunswick Hoops

Brunswick dropped its first game of the new year at home on Saturday afternoon, 50-45, to Cheshire.

After falling behind 7-0, the Bruins mounted a quick comeback with some timely shooting from sophomore guard Jack Stevens to take a 11-7 lead. But it was the Wildcats sharp shooting from downtown that almost put the game out of reach in the first half, forcing the Bruins to adjust defensively to stop the bleeding. It was 34-23 in favor of the visitors at the break.

Trailing 41-28 with 13:30 left to play in the second half, Brunswick went on a 17-3 run to take its first lead of the game, 45-44, with just over four minutes to play. With the game hanging in the balance in the final minutes, the Bruins got the looks they needed offensively, but were unable to capitalize and were forced to send Cheshire to the free throw line, where they ultimately closed out the game.

Stevens led Brunswick in scoring with 19 points. Ethan Long had 13 and JP Pray added 10.

Next up is St. Luke's on Wednesday afternoon in Dann Gym.
