Hoops Wins Final Game of 2023

Brunswick earned a win in its final game of 2023, besting St Paul’s, 66-63, on Saturday at St. Sebastian's School.

After falling behind 14-5 early, Brunswick rallied to tie the score at 17 apiece midway through first half. The two teams went back and forth the rest of the way, neither able to pull away as timely shots from both sides ended potential runs that would have put the game out of reach.

With 4:30 left to play, Matty Augustine was charged with his fifth and final foul, forcing him to the bench. It was a blow that the Bruins ultimately overcame, thanks in part to the unlikely contribution of newcomer Will Schmitz, who played the rest of the way. Tough defense down the stretch and timely free throws from Ethan Long and Jack Stevens closed the game out in the Bruins favor. 

Long led Brunswick with 25 points, including four three pointers. Stevens had 14 and Augustine added 11.
