The Bruins kicked off the tri-match weekend with a solid 6-1 victory against Episcopal Academy.
With the even numbers going on first, senior captain Will Newton and junior Oliver Velasco were being put to the test and playing some high quality squash. Anden Boulan had a rocky start against a persistent opponent.
Boulan soon found his discipline and stuck to his game plan to take the match 3-1. Meanwhile, Velasco found himself down 2-0, and made a valiant effort to claw back to 2-2, but eventually lost 12-10 in the fifth. Newton, on the adjacent court, had been trading long rallies with his opponent in a grueling match of attrition. He showed true grit to close the match 14-12 in the 5th.
After taking a 2-1 lead, the Bruins slowly began to pull away as each of the boys were in fine form. Wins from Raine, Edmands, and Cline had put us ahead 5-1. Johan Hodgson was the last remaining player on court and completed the victory with a hard-fought 3-1 scoreline at #1.
