Brunswick flipped the script from Thursday's outing at Loomis and jumped out to a big lead over New Hampton on Saturday afternoon at the Exeter Invitational, ultimately skating away with its first victory of the season by a score of 8-3.
The Bruins held a 3-0 lead after the first 20-minute frame and pushed the advantage to 7-2 after two before the teams traded goals in the third to set the final tally.
Juniors Tucker Spiess and Oliver Czaja each scored two goals for the Brown and White, and the line of seniors Luke Drury, Sean Gibbons, and Brendan Giles added one each – all of the highlight-reel variety. Senior Jake Minella added a SHG on a breakaway with just 29 seconds to play in the pro-format, 60-minute tilt.
'Wick talked before the game about not cheating offense, as well as backchecking and playing in the D-zone with a purpose. You can't just focus on the guy with the puck, you need to smell danger, and you have to have heads on swivels. The boys responded and played a tighter defensive game.
