Brunswick hosted Hotchkiss under the lights of Cosby Field on Wednesday, with two second-half goals from senior Kieran Raker ensuring the Bruins ended their 2023 home campaign with a 2-0 win.
While dominating possession in the midfield and playing strong defensively, the first half wasn't short of scoring chances for the home team. Tyler Quake '24, Patrick O'Donohue '25, and Ben Matitia '24 all had opportunities to get 'Wick on the board, either being thwarted by the Hotchkiss GK or just missing the frame of the goal.
Committing to their style of play and adding a little more passion to their efforts on the pitch, the Bruins capitalized in the 62nd minute: a brilliant give-and-go sequence with Quaker and classmate Rowan Glanville sprung Quake free down the right sideline to send a cross toward goal, which Raker deposited past the Hotchkiss GK.
Just two minutes later, junior Theo Perkins collected a ball near midfield and played it down the left sideline for Raker. With a few touches past defenders and creating space towards goal, Raker let a shot rip from 20 yards out that deflected off a Hotchkiss defender to find the back of the net. This brings Raker's scoring total to 18 for the season.
Big credit to Brunswick's defensive unit for its fourth shut-out performance of the season, led by GK Phil Stabinsky (two saves) and centerbacks Johnny Saunders and Ollie Leonard. Charlie Perkins, Whim Nook, Sebi Medina, and Ray Foley all shuffled through on the defensive wings with solid play.
Extra shouts to Henry Wise, Iggy Miranda, and Fernando Uyaguari in coming off the bench and playing impactful minutes for the Bruins.
