Bruins Earn Road Win at Master's

Brunswick picked up its third win of the soccer season, following a 1-0 result at Master’s School in Dobbs Ferry on Thursday.

Despite good defending and possession through the midfield, the Bruins struggled to produce quality chances on goal in the first half. The best scoring opportunity of the half for both teams came in the 30th minute, when the hosts earned a PK after a foul in the 18-yard-box. Sophomore GK Josh Katz, getting his first varsity start in net, made a diving save to his right on the ensuing kick to keep the match scoreless.

With a renewed energy in the second frame, ’Wick finally completed a sequence with a ball in the back of Master’s net. Midfielder Rowan Glanville ’24 found striker Kieran Raker ’24 on a great feed in the 59th minute, and Raker buried a shot past the Master’s GK for the only tally of the match.

Katz ended the day with four saves and most of his action came in the first half, thanks mostly to strong defensive play from center backs Ollie Leonard ’25 and Johnny Saunders ’24, in addition to junior midfielder Will Higgs.

The Bruins are back at it on Saturday vs. Kent in the annual Coaches Vs. Cancer Match, which raises money for the American Cancer Society. This year, the game will be played in honor and memory of Grace Warne — a beloved Upper School math teacher who lost a tough fight to the disease in August. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. on Carroll Field.
