Soccer Team Falls at Deerfield

Brunswick soccer visited Deerfield on Saturday, losing by a score of 4-1 and dropping to 2-4 on the season.

The first 20 minutes were played evenly. Kieran Raker took advantage of a rebound off the high press, dribbled in, and beat the goalkeeper low for a 1-0 Brunswick lead.

The score motivated Deerfield to step up its game and the home team scored three goals in the last 20 minutes of the first half. A shot from Raker rolled just wide of the left post in the 35th minute that would have pulled one back.

Brunswick was determined to get back into the game after a spirited discussion during halftime. Unfortunately, Deerfield scored their fourth goal seven minutes into the half from a right side corner. In the last 30 minutes of the game, Brunswick had much more of the ball and created numerous scoring chances -- and were unlucky not to score a number of goals.

Both Raker and Theo Perkins hit wonderful strikes that the Deerfield goalkeeper barely kept from hitting the net. The midfield and defense played more aggressively, winning the ball and setting the attack in motion. Will Higgs was particularly effective from his defensive midfield position. The play in the second half gives the team a positive feeling about its upcoming schedule.

Avon comes to town for the team's next game on Wednesday.
