James Nets Hat Trick in Soccer's Win

Brunswick climbed back to the .500 mark following a 5-2 win over visiting Greens Farms Academy on Monday, thanks in large part to a stand-out performance and hat trick from senior striker Luke James.

James scored his first tally in the 13th minute: junior midfielder Theo Perkins sent a long clearance toward midfield following a GFA throw-in, putting James into a 1-v-1 situation in which he ultimately banked a shot off the post and into the net. Less than 10 minutes later, James added his second, again converting a 1-v-1 following a nice sequence starting with a goal kick from defender Charlie Perkins '26 to midfielder Will Higgs '25 to striker Kieran Raker '24, who ultimately laid the ball off for James to take to goal.

The score was 2-1 at the end of the first half, as GFA cut the lead in the 32nd minute, converting a free kick after earning a foul from just outside the 18-yard-box.

After a back-and-forth battle to start the second frame, the Bruins extended their lead to 3-1 in the 68th minute, as Higgs climbed high above a crowd to head-in a corner kick from junior midfielder Agustin Grether from the left side. ’Wick’s fourth tally was a mirror image of this with 10 minutes remaining in the match, as Charlie Perkins deposited a corner from the right side from senior defender Johnny Saunders.

Shortly after this goal, the sky finally opened up and the teams played in a complete downpour for the remainder of the match.

James got his final tally in the 82nd minute, again converting another 1-v-1 low past the GFA keeper. This tally was thanks in large part to some solid footwork and a very well-placed pass from junior striker Patrick O'Donohue, earning an assist in his Brunswick soccer debut.

GFA would deposit another free kick in the 86th minute following a hand-ball just outside the box.
Senior GK Phil Stabinsky had another fine showing in net. Two of his six saves came immediately following his team’s first and third goals, both on breakaway chances produced by a GFA attack starting at midfield.

The Bruins host Loomis at Carroll Field on Wednesday — 3:00 kick-off.
