Leading 4-2 after two periods, Taft skated away with an 8-4 victory over Brunswick on its home ice on Wednesday. The Bruins (6-5-1) return to action on Monday, January 9, hosting Hotchkiss.
Brunswick opened the game with a power-play goal by Brunswick’s Ryan Carmichael. The extra-man tally was Carmichael’s first goal of the season.
The Rhinos countered with the next two goals of the game to take a 2-1 lead after one period.
In the second period, Taft bookended solo goals around a tally from Brunswick’s Aaron Aboodi, as the hosts took a 4-2 lead heading into the third period.
Following a Taft goal to open the third period, the Bruins’ Cooper Moore netted a goal at the 5:04 mark to set the score at 5-3 in favor of the Rhinos.
Taft countered with two more goals to take a 7-3 lead before Brunswick’s Nick VanBelle scored his 12th goal of the season. The Rhinos added one more goal for the 8-4 final.
