New Hampton scored three goals unanswered goals in the final four minutes of the third period to beat Brunswick on Saturday, 4-2, at the Brooks-Pingree Holiday Tournament.
The three-goal rally by New Hampton erased an earlier third period run by the Bruins (4-2-0).
Brunswick, trailing 1-0 entering the third period, scored a pair of goals to take a 2-1 lead.
Senior co-captain Nick VanBelle accounted for both tallies, including finishing off a 5-on-3 power play.
Despite the 2-1 deficit, New Hampton didn’t fold in the waning minutes of the contest. The Huskies tied the game at 2-2 on a point shot that caromed off a Brunswick stick in front of the net. Moments later, New Hampton took a 3-2 lead on a power-play goal.
The Huskies would add an insurance goal for the 4-2 final.
The Bruins have one more game on the tournament docket before a 10-day break in the schedule. Following the break, the Bruins will travel to Buffalo for the Nichols-Belmont Hill Tournament, beginning on Wednesday, December 28.
