Brunswick cruised to a 5-0 victory against the Brooks School in the opening game of the Brooks-Pingree Holiday Tournament on Friday. The 4-0 Bruins have a quick turnaround, as they play Millbrook at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning at the Brooks School.
Puck pursuit and a challenging fore-check keyed the decisive 5-0 victory for Brunswick.
Nick VanBelle opened the scoring five minutes into the game, with Grey Owens making it a 2-0 game four minutes later.
In the second period, the Bruins controlled the puck and kept the action deep in their offensive zone for most of the period, adding two more tallies. Following defenseman Patrick Burkinshaw’s goal, VanBelle netted his second of the game for a commanding 4-0 lead.
Charles Shaffer converted on the opening shift of the third period to cap the scoring of the 5-0 Brunswick victory.
Brunswick goalie Strauss Mann stopped all 11 shots during a quiet afternoon between the pipes.
