Hockey Rallies for Overtime Win
Nick VanBelle’s one-timer propelled Brunswick to a 4-3 overtime victory on the road against Trinity-Pawling on Monday. The 3-0 Bruins, one game removed from a buzzer-beating game-winner, scored with just 16 second remaining in OT.
The Pride built a 2-0 first period lead on their home ice, outworking the visitors in the early going and adding the second goal in the final minute of the period.
Following the Zamboni’s appearance at the close of the first period, the Bruins exploded for a trio of goals in the second period, as VanBelle, Patrick Burkinshaw, and Nick Boardman lit the lamp to give their team a 3-2 lead.
Trinity-Pawling tied the game at three two minutes into the third period, holding the Bruins at bay for the most of the final stanza on the way to overtime.
In the extra session, VanBelle potted the game-winner following some key individual efforts, including Boardman’s hustle collecting the puck in advance of an icing call.
Boardman eventually got the puck to Christian LeSueur, who fed the biscuit to VanBelle in the low slot for the game-ending tally.
Brunswick goalie Strauss Mann (3-0) had another strong outing, stopping 36 of 39 shots on the day.
The Bruins head to the Brooks/Pingree Holiday Tournament in Boston this weekend, playing four games in three days, beginning on Friday, December 16, against Brooks at Brooks.
