Grapplers Take Third at Loomis Duals

Brunswick won three of four team matches in the Loomis Holiday Duals, earning a third-place finish in the eight-team event on Saturday at Loomis Chaffee. The Bruins topped the host school and Lawrenceville before falling to Northfield Mount Hermon. Brunswick, the winners last year, finished the tourney by besting Trinity-Pawling for third place.
 
In the eight-team format, the squads are divided into Pool A and Pool B. Within the four team pools, each team wrestles dual meets against the other three teams in the pool. In the finals, teams "cross-over" to wrestle for 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th places against teams from the other pool.

Junior stand-out John DeLucia (9-0) won all four of his bouts by pin fall, as did junior co-captain Lachlan Rosato (8-1). Tim Saunders (8-1) also had his hand raised four times, while senior Chris Katchadurian and 8th grader Hugo Nutting donned the Brown & Gold varsity singlet for the first time.

Brunswick came out of the blocks wrestling well versus the hosts. The Pelicans have a proud wrestling tradition, but the Bruins were prepared for the challenge.

Brunswick faced a well-drilled Big Red squad, but the Bruins were able to achieve the win with team depth. Co-captain Andrew Hennessy (6-2) competed well, but lost in the final seconds to his opponent.

Against NMH, Brunswick lost a dual meet for the first time since this corresponding date two years ago. The talented and experienced Hoggers were strong up and down the line-up card. Highlighting the match was senior Alex Tucker (7-3) and his excellent effort, pulling out a 7-6 win, while fellow senior Aiden Reynolds (7-1) picked up a 9-3 decision.

In the third-place match, Brunswick regrouped from the setback to NMH to beat Trinity-Pawling. The Bruins finished the tournament with a number of pins en route to the decisive win.
