Brunswick, the national champions the past two seasons, opened its 2016-17 campaign with a hard-fought road win over another national power, Springside-Chestnut Hill, on Saturday, 6-3.
In the anticipated matchup, the Bruins needed over two hours to dispatch the Blue Devils, as five matches went the full five games.
Three freshmen, Nick Spizzirri, Brian Leonard and Dana Santry, along with veterans Tyler Carney, Max Finkelstein, and Tate Huffmann, won their 2016-17 debut matches.
Brunswick returns to action down in the Philadelphia area for the remainder of the weekend. Following an exhibition on Saturday against a team from the Merion Cricket Club, the Bruins face another national championship caliber foe, Episcopal Academy, on Sunday.
