Brunswick Tops Delbarton in First-Ever Lacrosse Matchup
The Bruins hit the road for a matchup against first-time opponent and perennial New Jersey power Delbarton on Tuesday afternoon – ultimately earning a 14-8 victory after a big second-half scoring surge.
Delbarton started the game with two quick goals in transition and built a 2-0 lead before the Bruins could settle in. As the first quarter ticked on, the teams continued to trade goals – 4-3 Delbarton after one.
Play in the second quarter was similar to that in the first, as both sides seemed to have an answer for one another. Brunswick took its first lead of the game with 1:21 to go off of a great caused turnover on the ride by Casey Quinson that led to a Payton Anderson goal. But the Green Wave tied it at six with 26 seconds to go.
The Bruins exploded out of half time with two goals in the first minute, including one from junior long-stick midfielder Tucker Spiess. The offense kept its foot on the gas and built a 12-7 lead thanks to a 6-1 third quarter.
A relatively quiet fourth quarter allowed Brunswick to seal the victory. Credit to the Bruins' defense for locking it down in the second half.
