Bruins Fall Short Against Hornets

Brunswick varsity baseball fell short to a very talented Hamden Hall team by the score of 5-2 on Thursday.

It was a competitive game from both sides, as each team pitched very effectively, played solid defense, and swung it well.

The biggest difference was that Hamden had timely hitting with runners on, while the Bruins did not.

Michael Yeager got the start for the Bruins and provided four strong innings of work. He held the Hornets offense to three runs. Jerry Guzman was in relief and went two innings of his own. He pounded the zone and kept the Bruins in it. The Hornets, however, still managed to get two more runs across.

The Brunswick offense had a solid day at the plate as they had base runners on in every inning. They hit the ball to all fields and found ways to get on base. They just couldn’t deliver the one or two big hits with runners on in order to get them across to score.  Some notables: Jackson Shepelsky and Guzman each had an RBI single. Yeager had two hits.

The Bruins look to bounce back as they head into an out-of-league matchup against the Stony Brook School on Saturday. Shepelsky will be on the mound in what is sure to be a great game.
