Varsity Eight Holds Off Deerfield

In a match-up of the last two schools to win the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association (NEIRA) Championships in the Boys Varsity Eight, Brunswick's top boat bested Deerfield in a close race on Cos Cob Harbor. The Bruins crossed the line in 4:34.0 with the Big Green only one second back in 4:35.0.

Brunswick's Varsity Eight (coxswain Lucas Tan, stroke Henry Andren, George Kapp, Reed Eddy, Phil Martone, Quinn Evans, Kiran Marsh, Jack McEntire, and bow Charlie Sulkowski) won the start and took an early lead that they would never relinquish. Deerfield closed on Brunswick a bit in the sprint to the finish line, but Brunswick held on to win by about 1/3 of a boat length.

In the 2nd and 3rd Varsity Eights races, Deerfield's power was too much for the lighter Brunswick crews. Deerfield won the 2V race by 15.9 seconds and the 3V race by 5.5 seconds.

Brunswick will host Lawrenceville on Saturday, April 27 at 2PM.
