'Wick Tops Highly Ranked Loomis on Carroll Field

Loomis Chaffee visited Brunswick for a Saturday matinee between the #1 and #2 ranked teams in New England on Carroll Field, with the Bruins ultimately prevailing by a score of 13-6.

The Bruins opened the scoring in the first quarter, but the visitors proved to be resilient as both teams traded goals. The second quarter mirrored the first, and eventually the teams went into half time with a score of 4-3 in favor of the home team.

The first half had all the characteristics of a tight, low scoring battle between two of the top teams in the region.

The second half started with a gritty goal from senior co-captain Casey Quinson, who was aggressive on the ride and caused Loomis’ goalie to turn it over for an easy empty netter with 11:04 remaining in the third quarter – 5-3 Bruins.

Brunswick found its groove in the second half, led by a dominant performance from junior face-off athlete Aidan Diaz-Matos, who was perfect at the X after halftime.

Senior co-captain Hudson Hausmann led the charge offensively for the Bruins with a second half hat trick, while Tucker Williams, the Brown-bound Brunswick netminder, closed the door on Loomis’ offense with a few highlight-reel saves.

In what Coach Bruce called “a statement win,” the Brunswick defense held Loomis to only six goals for a final score of 13-6.

The Bruins hit the road this week to face #1 ranked Lawrenceville School on Wednesday.
