Bruins Defeat South Kent at Hartong

Brunswick earned a hard-nosed victory against South Kent 18U – who now plays outside of the NEPSAC in a league with Northwood, St. Andrew's, Shattuck, Mount St. Charles, and Culver – by a score of 4-2 on Friday night at Hartong Rink.

The Bruins broke the game open in the second period with three consecutive breakaway goals – from seniors Brendan Giles, Connor Choy (his first of the year), and Ryan Wachtel – to make it 4-0. The balcony was rocking after Choy's backhand to the top shelf.

For Giles, it was his 30th tally of the season – which makes him Brunswick's Division I single-season record holder in what has been a dominant year for the three-year letterman from Ridgefield. He breaks a record held since 2012 by Kevin Duane, who went on to play collegiate hockey at Boston University and Quinnipiac.

South Kent made it interesting down the stretch with one late goal in the second and one with 3:47 to play.

Senior Will Baker shut the door from there – and finished the night with 31 saves in a solid performance.

The home stretch now begins for the Bruins (20-4-2), who will face highly ranked Cushing Academy at UConn on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
