The varsity squash team returned from winter vacation and earned a 6-1 home victory against Hopkins on Wednesday. The decisive win brings the Bruins record to 4-2 and 2-0 in the FAA.
The match featured some solid performances from younger members of the squash program who were called up for their first varsity tilt: Asher Hussain won 3-0 at #7, Sami Muhtadie won 3-1 at #6, and Ian Henry won 3-0 at #5. On the 3 & 4 court, Gabe Levy and Eric Lorenz sealed the match for Brunswick with 3-0 victories.
Freshman Carson Beck and #2 and Senior Alex DeLuca at #1 faced the toughest and most entertaining battles of the match. Beck found himself in a seesawing tilt against a solid Hilltopper player, but pulled out a victory in the fifth game. In a match in which every game went down to the wire, DeLuca found himself down by a two game deficit. Undeterred and relying on his drop shot, DeLuca fought back and was able to level the contest, 2-2, but his comeback fell just short in the fifth game.
The next few weeks are relatively quiet for the Bruins. They will play Delbarton on Thursday, January 11, before gearing up for a big rematch at home against Haverford on Friday, January 26.
