Brunswick's 9th grade football team defeated Avon Old Farms 3rds, 12-0, at Cosby Field on Saturday.
The Bruins played a solid game on both sides of the ball to earn their fifth victory. After a scoreless first quarter, the Bruins capped a sustained drive with a Madsen Erhart run for a touchdown. The ensuing try for point failed, and the half ended with the Bruins up 6-0.
In the third quarter, the Bruins' defense chipped in with an interception by Teo Ocana. Luke Perriello broke a 50 yard run that set up another Erhart touchdown. Again, the try for point failed, putting the Bruins ahead 12-0.
The Winged Beavers threatened in the fourth quarter, but the Bruins' defense stepped up. After stopping Avon on downs, the Bruins maintained possession, ending the game with a 12-yard run by Jake Paniwozik to run out the clock. Final score: Brunswick 12, Avon 0.
Brunswick is scheduled to play King School on November 6 at Circle Field.
