Brunswick fell to GCDS, 1-0, on a Tigers' goal off a corner kick in the 89th minute on Wednesday afternoon.
Coming out flat and not willing to match GCDS's physicality, the Bruins let the hosts get the better of them in the first half. Winning most of the 50-50 balls and generating more scoring opportunities, GCDS dictated play throughout the first 45 minutes. 'Wick was fortunate to go into the break with a 0-0 scoreline, thanks in part to a few big saves from senior GK Phil Stabinsky and quality defending from centerbacks Johnny Saunders and Ollie Leonard.
The second half was a different game all-together, with both sides going back and forth. Kieran Raker, Will Higgs, Tyler Quake, and Theo Perkins all produced chances on goal. Marcus Matitia played hugely impactful minutes as a defensive center-mid, and Ray Foley came off the bench putting in a big shift at defensive back.
After earning their ninth and final set piece of the day from the corner, GCDS was able to deposit a ball across the goal that deflected to the far post.
Stabinsky had a solid showing in net, making eight saves, collecting crosses, and clearing away dangerous through balls.
The Bruins host Hopkins on Friday night at 5 p.m. on Cosby Field.
