Football Bruins Topple Andover, Return to .500 Mark
Brunswick fought the elements and a tough Andover team down to the wire on Saturday, ultimately coming out on top and evening its season record (3-3) with a 20-12 victory on the road in Massachusetts.
Senior RB Bryce Davis got the Bruins on the board first with a 45-yard TD run. Junior Oliver Reynolds added the extra point to put the visitors in front by seven.
After exchanging punts, Andover went on a seven-play drive, capped by a 38-yard TD run. The extra point was no good — 7-6 Brunswick.
The home team added another score late in the first half, this time on a 66-yard passing touchdown. The two-point try failed and Andover led by a score of 12-7 at the half.
Reynolds booted a 37-yard field goal in the pouring rain and into the wind to cut into Andover’s lead in the third quarter.
The Bruins went ahead for good after a big play by junior EJ Perez, who sacked the Andover QB, caused a fumble, and recovered it on the Andover three-yard line. Davis punched in the TD run and Reynolds made the PAT — 17-12 Bruins.
Reynolds buried another field goal from 42 yards out to complete the scoring.
Big defensive plays were made by senior Tommy Pope, junior Tyler Georgs, and junior Ethan Long (two interceptions). Also of note was a 40-yard kick return by senior Blaine McClure.
Brunswick will be back on the road next Saturday at Exeter.
