Crew Competes at Head of the Charles Regatta

In the 52^nd Head of the Charles Regatta, Brunswick sent 15 rowers to compete in three different boat classes on Sunday in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Christian Ruf, racing solo in the Men's Youth Singles event, finished in 16th place against an experienced field of 35 scullers from around the world. Facing challenging conditions, Ruf finished the three mile upstream course in 21:40.673.

Following this strong individual performance, Ruf will return to racing in eight-man boats for the remainder of the season.

After earning Brunswick’s first-ever Head of the Charles Regatta medal in last year’s Men’s Youth Fours, the Bruins had bow number two in 2016. This year's crew, hailing from their traditional Second Varsity Eight boat, consisted of stroke Alexander Trauber, Jack Altman, Matthew Jacobson, bowman Diego Jasson, and coxswain Conor Boyle. The boat finished 67^th out of 85 entries.

Brunswick was one of a select few programs to even have entries in both the four and the eight.

In the Men's Youth Eights, Brunswick finished 46th of 85, narrowly missing out on a top 42 finish and an automatic qualifying for next year's regatta. This year's eight consisted of stroke Matthew Womble, Tate Huffman, Jack Mozingo, Andrew Kelly, Alex Wada, Austin Sammons, David Sorbaro, bowman Michael Farello, and coxswain Alec Esmond.

Historically, Brunswick crews earned tremendous success in this regatta. For this event, the Bruins finished 21st out of 45 schools in the field. Brunswick did finish ahead of perennial contenders, including St. Joseph Prep, from Pennsylvania, and Charles River local, Boston College High School.

The Bruins return to the water in Philadelphia on Sunday, October 30, at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta. Brunswick enters the event as two-time defending champions.
