Second Ranked South Kent Tops Brunswick

In front of a boisterous Homecoming crowd, Brunswick fell to South Kent, the number two team in New England, on Friday at Cosby Field, 4-0. The loss drops the Bruins to 4-6-1 overall, while the Cardinals improve to 9-1.

Brunswick goalie Harry Barringer saw plenty of action early, making a career-high 14 saves on the evening.

On the first goal at the nine-minute mark, Barringer stopped a 25-yard shot by South Kent, but the Cardinals redirected the loose ball for a 1-0 lead.

South Kent added tallies at the 20th and 35th minute, converting on a pair of transition goals inside the Brunswick half of the field. The pair of goals capped the first half scoring, as the Cardinals took a 3-0 lead into the break.

The Bruins' defense stiffened in the second half, as the Brunswick back four of James Polak, Ben Powers, Clem Carter, and Ryan Glanville kept the potent Cardinal attack away from Barringer for long stretches. The Bruins' offense was stymied by the South Kent defense, as Brunswick did not get a solid shot on goal during the game.

A late Cardinal goal at the 88th minute set the 4-0 final score.

Brunswick plays a 3:00 p.m. neutral site contest against Pomfret at Choate on Wednesday, October 26.
