Cross Country Undefeated in FAA Regular Season

With the potential for a third-straight undefeated conference season on the line, the Brunswick runners were up to the task, winning the final FAA regular-season meet, hosted by the Convent of the Sacred Heart on Wednesday. The Bruins beat Hopkins (27-30) and Masters (20-43) to improve to 18-0 against FAA competition.

 

The race against Hopkins came down to the fifth scoring runners for each team, as the squads were tied on the scoreboard after each team had four runners cross the finish line.

 

Nick Burtson (17:40) of Hopkins was first across the line, followed by Masters’ top runner. The early Hilltopper advantage was neutralized by a strong performance delivered by Brunswick’s Wesley Peisch (18:33) and Andres Jasson (18:47), who outkicked a Hopkins runner, tying the race with two runners crossing the line for both squads.

 

Seconds later Brunswick took the lead after Jack Parkin (18:55) crossed, but he was followed by a pair of Hopkins runners. Paul Grasso (19:27) was next to cross the line for the Bruins, knotting the score once more as the runners and spectators awaited the fifth and final scoring runners from each team.

 

The race was secured for Brunswick, as Jack Driscoll (19:52), Charlie Ciporin (19:53), and Colin MacFaddin (20:00) delivered faster finishes than the fifth Hopkins runner to secure the regular-season title.

The Bruins will take part in the Collegiate School Invitational in the Bronx on Friday, October 21, followed by the FAA Championship on Halloween and the New England Championship on November 12.
