Trailing 2-0 at halftime, Brunswick fought back to tie the game on a pair of Dante Polvara goals late in the game on Saturday at Caputo Field.
Despite dominating possession for most of the opening half, a pair of defensive miscues led to two Deerfield (3-0-1) goals late in the first half.
Brunswick had its own pair of solid chances to cut the Deerfield lead early in the second half, but quality saves by the visiting keeper kept the Bruins off the scoreboard.
After Brunswick’s Nick Boardman drew a penalty kick at the 79th minute, Polvara buried the first of his two goals, knifing the Bruins’ deficit to 2-1.
Three minutes later, Polvara diced around the Deerfield defense near the 18-yard line and dropped a fabulous chip over the Deerfield goalie, tying the game at two apiece.
Moments before the final whistle sounded, Polvara nearly netted a game-winning hat trick, but the shot sailed just above the crossbar.
Harry Barringer made an impressive 10 saves on the day, including a last-minute save on a free kick from the 18-yard line out to preserve the tie.
The Bruins (0-2-1) return to action on Wednesday, September 28, with a road game at Avon Old Farms.
