Crew Races in World Famous Henley Royal Regatta

Brunswick sent a contingent of its crew team to England to compete in the Henley Royal Regatta. The epic one mile and 550-yard upstream course is the epicenter of crew racing, as the 2016 Regatta set a record with 629 entries.

The Bruins made their seventh appearance in the Princess Elizabeth Challenge Cup at the Regatta. The event was created for high school programs in England in 1946, as international teams were granted access in 1964.

Qualifying races pared down this year’s 46 entries to 32, as Brunswick drew a familiar foe, Latymer Upper School, from West London in the first day of the Challenge Cup. It was the third time the Bruins faced the local school, with Brunswick winning the previous two meetings in 2009 and 2014.

Brunswick won the race by a decisive margin to advance. To watch this race, see below:

On day two in the round of 16, the Bruins fell to the Westminster School from London. Westminster advanced to the semifinals, falling to eventual champion Eton College. It was Eton’s fourth championship in the last eight years.
