Track and Field Competes at New Englands

Brunswick finished 13^th in the NEPSTA Division II Championship, held at Tabor Academy on Saturday, May 21. Brandon Allen’s third-place finish in the long jump was the highest finish of the dozen Brunswick competitors who took part in the championship.

Allen’s third-place, personal-best leap of 19’ 10.75” came in the first round against the 23-person field. Teammate Nacho Nwana finished 18^th in the event.

A pair of Bruins earned top-15 finishes in both the 100-meter hurdles and 100-meter dash.

In the hurdles, Jadon Washington finished 11^th with a time of 18.84 seconds, while Sal Lopez finished 15^th.

Washington also set a personal-best in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 45:12, placing him eighth in the championship.

Brothers Cassius and Cory Johnson raced to 10^th and 13^th, respectively, in the 100 meters, as Cassius sped to a personal-best 11.61, .21 seconds faster than Cory’s P.R. of 11.82.

Cassius Johnson collected his second personal-best time of the day in the 200 (23.65), finishing in 12^th place.

Andrew Israel capped a distinguished distance-running career at Brunswick, as the senior earned an eighth-place finish in the 1,500-meter race with a personal-best time of 4:29.68.

Lopez and Luis Hernandez competed in the 400 meter dash, as Lopez raced to a 13^th place finish (54.85), while Hernandez was 17^th.

Wesley Peisch earned a 15^th-place finish in the 3,000 meters (10:03.36), while the 4x400 team of Cam Kelly, Nwana, Hernandez and Lopez nearly eclipsed a school record with a time of 3:41.21, as the quartet finished ninth overall.

In the field events, following Allen’s third-place finish in the long jump, Henry Ellison took 10^th in the triple jump (37’ 00”), as Nwana finished 12^th in the high jump (5’ 06”). Will Rusk tossed the shot 36’ 7.5”.
