Gridiron Bruins Head to Sean Brennan Bowl

The Brunswick football team, fresh off a 7-2 regular season, will play in the NEPSAC Sean Brennan Bowl against Milton Academy on Saturday, November 21, at 1:00 p.m. The game will be hosted by Avon Old Farms.

It is the third-straight bowl for the Bruins, and 11th overall, since the NEPSAC started the bowl system in 1989. Brunswick is 7-3 all-time in NEPSAC post-season games.

In 2014, the NEPSAC honored Brennan, who coached at Brunswick from 2003-09, by naming a bowl game after the legendary coach. Brennan worked at Salisbury School prior to arriving at Brunswick, coaching in a combined seven NEPSAC post-season games and earning a 4-3 mark.

When Brennan left Brunswick in 2009 to become headmaster at Vermont Academy, he owned a 49-8 record with the Bruins, including a 3-1 record in Brunswick bowl games.

His replacement on the gridiron is Brunswick graduate Jarrett Shine ’92. The former Bruin football standout continued the path that both Brennan and coach Bob Sampson started — taking the Bruins to the post-season.

After bowl appearances in the past two seasons, both held at Avon Old Farms, Shine and the Bruins once again return to the turf of their league rivals. Last season, Brunswick defeated Governor’s Academy (Mass.), a league rival of Milton, 46-20. In 2013, the Bruins fell, 35-28, to Phillips Andover.

The Mustangs (6-2) hail from the very competitive Independent School League (ISL) and features a dynamic offense, highlighted by an impressive running attack.

Milton averaged over 26 points on offense in during its ISL campaign, while holding its opponents to 16.5 points. Milton is 3-1 in NEPSAC post-season games, including a 62-18 win over the Dexter School (Mass.) in its last bowl game in 2013.

Saturday's bowl game will also close the chapter on the high school football careers of seniors from both schools, including seventeen exceptional Men of Brunswick.
